I understand that all of us approach a semester differently, and there are different ways that we work to get the assignments done on time. Now, I’m not the best at staying organized and on task, and I will be the first to admit that! But I have found a couple of things that work for me. I’ve decided to compile a few that I’ve run into and/or used during my University Career, and share them here! I would recommend using a combination of these tactics.
Post-it Notes: This is a way to stay organized if you are a visual person, and you want to be able to see your list diminish. Write down every paper,
test, project, important date…etc. on a sticky note. Find a spot on your wall, or your desk (somewhere you will see it every day), and line them up in order. That way, once you’re done with an assignment, you can simply remove that sticky note and your list will start to shrink.
Planner/Agenda: This is somewhat of a given. For some people, this is all on their phone/computer. That can be nice because you can set reminders to yourself about certain items in your calendar. I prefer carrying around a physical agenda. This is a place where I write all upcoming
assignments, events, meetings, plans…etc. You can go as basic as a simple calendar from the dollar store, to my favourite which includes the days of the week on one side of the page, and a page of lined paper for notes on the other side. That way, when I’m in a meeting, or on a phone call, I can jot down a few notes, and it’s all collected as part of my week.
Bullet Journaling: *WARNING: This next technique is not for the faint of heart, and it can be addicting.* Bullet Journaling is something that was created only very recently, and has snowballed into a whole community of people who love to organize their lives, love lists, love planning…etc.
Even if you’re not a planner, the Bullet Journal is great because you essentially get to create your own planner, in a way that meets your needs. You could do something simple or you could also get creative like this:
There are so many other ways to organize your thoughts, assignments, appointments…etc. The main thing is to try!
