The transition from high school to university is a big step. University demands greater responsibility, diligence, and self-discipline. You learn to mature because you find the mature and adult perspective of university is balanced by the freedom that comes with being an adult student. In this blog posting, I will discuss the freedoms that a university, like Ambrose University, offers to students.
Freedom comes in many forms and fashions, and Ambrose University is a great place for freedom. University gives you the freedom to make your own decisions. As a student, I can come and go as I please. I can leave class when I want to or I can decide not to go to class at all. I can decide to sleep in and miss my class or I can decide to study and go to class. Personally, I have on a few occasions slept through my alarm or simply forgotten to turn it on, resulting in missing my class . . . oops.
University also offers the freedom of new opportunity. I left my old high school friends when I came to Ambrose, and now I have created new friendships. I can meet new people and talk to whomever I want and associate with the people I want to. I can build relationships with my professors and go out to coffee with them. I can choose to fill my time with the activities that I want to do:
- Playing sports (Hockey, Squash, Futsal, Volleyball, Basketball, Ultimate Frisbee)
- Going to the gym
- Playing music with a group of friends
- Acting and participating in theatre or finding an art
I have never experienced a reading break before now, and all I can say is, it’s awesome. For my reading week, I stayed at school and hung out with friends for half the week, and for the rest I visited my mother’s side of the family in the States. I went to Portland, Oregon where my cousins live. I had a great time catching up with my family and laughing and creating some memories. Reading break is great and I already miss not having a week off to do nothing.
So there you have it. University offers an array of freedoms, which hopefully you will come to find soon.
