How flexible is Seminary?

Posted by Johana Mak

Is Seminary able to bend easily without breaking? Not literally! But because Seminary has a wide range of option courses, it can fit flexibly into your schedule.

Ambrose Seminary has lot of different course formats: weekend courses, evening courses, modular courses, and even online courses! I’ve had the opportunity to experience all of them. Each type of course offers a unique advantage for your schedule and your learning.

Weekend courses usually mean you only have to show up to class 3-4 times in the semester. They’re normally held once a month until the semester ends, on Friday evening and Saturday all day. This format is ideal if you are working full-time on weekdays.

Some of you might be thinking, yeah I need to work class around my job, but there is so much to learn, I want the class to happen weekly instead. Well, it sounds like evening courses are a great option for you. They normally happen once a week from 6:30-9:30 PM. You can still fit this type of course in with a full-time job, and since it happens weekly, you also get the chance to know your classmates and professor better. There are definitely more interactions when you get to see everyone once a week for a whole semester!

Modular courses are another great option. These are intensive courses that run all day for a whole week (Monday-Friday), normally from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM. Personally, I enjoy these courses because even though they demand a lot of energy, I get to soak in the topic for the whole week. I retain more information when I’m in a modular course. Also, the assignments are normally due a couple of months after the class ends, so I have lots of flexibility to fit them into my schedule.

Last but not least, Ambrose Seminary offers online courses. This works well if you live far from Ambrose (especially when winter in Calgary is not friendly and you get to stay in your house instead of going outside). You might worry that you won’t be able to interact with others in an online setting, but that’s not the case! There are online discussions every week where you get to express your opinion and learn your classmates’ opinions as well. This type of course might be the most flexible of all.

So if you are working full-time, don’t worry about not being able to attend class. There are so many options that you can choose from. If you want to experience some modular or weekend courses, click here to check out the spring courses coming up in May!
