LYC 2015

Posted by Alex Holden

describe the imageThe 2015 Legacy Youth Conference is in less than ten days, and all of us here at Ambrose are so excited to unveil the theme of JOY and spend a weekend with students from all across Canada growing together, learning more about our magnificent creator, and sharing everything we have been working on since the start of the school year.

When you arrive at our beautiful campus you will get to see the decorations, the activities, the skits, the worship team, the speaker, and tons of Ambrose students involved in every single one of those elements. What you won’t see is what all went into making the magic happen! So, I am here to give you the inside scoop: a behind the scenes look at LYC 2015.

Did you know that LYC is run completely by Ambrose students? Last year I was fortunate enough to be chosen as the student in charge of Entertainment Night and Creative Elements for the weekend. It was an incredible experience getting to volunteer for the conference I loved attending when I was in youth group.

The process of planning, creating, and executing LYC every year is such a fantastic testament to the strong community that Ambrose has! Students have been teaming up to make LYC a success for almost seventy years now, and this year is no different!

We have been preparing for LYC 2015 since April of last year! The summer is spent in prayer and in thoughtful planning, dreaming of the possibilities the New Year holds.  In the fall, we hit the ground running! Some of the acts you will see for Entertainment Night next week have been rehearsing since October! It is a lot of work, but it is so worth it.

The weekend of the conference always astounds me. There are always things to be worried about, but everything always works out so perfectly in the end.  My absolute favorite part of the weekend is how it is entirely focused on Christ. A big part of this is prayer. We don’t just pray beforehand: we have a prayer team that is constantly praying for every event that happens and every person at the conference. During the rallies what you see onstage are the musicians, speakers, and actors. What you don’t see are the people walking behind the curtain praying over every single thing that happens on that stage. The Holy Spirit moves in remarkable, tangible ways at LYC!

Enjoy the weekend. Enjoy the retreat from day-to-day life. Throw yourself into the experience with all of your heart, and soak in every moment! We have some very special things planned, and there are going to be lots of laughs along the way (rumor has it a brand new Bachelor trailer will be previewing at Entertainment Night…).

The Friday morning of LYC feels like Christmas morning for all of us here at Ambrose! We hope you love it just as much as we do.
