OnSite!

describe the imageI had mentioned this in the 'most favorite part of Ambrose,' but let me expand a little bit more here! Many of us love to travel. When we arrive to the destination, food and culture is something that we would tend to look forward to. For myself, I would never miss out trying all the weird food!

So imagine you get to eventually fly to a city that you potentially chose, to eat all the weird food and to know more about the culture. Does that sound exciting?! Not only that, but you also get credits into your program! This is a small picture of what OnSite is all about.

I did my OnSite for my Intercultural Studies program. I originally picked Taiwan because I wanted to learn about their Christian history, culture, and language. However, things did not work out smoothly, so I had to choose another place. In the end, I chose a Limited Access Country/Asia, a country that does not allow missionaries to go in and doesn’t allow religion to be freely practiced. My program head professor was able to find a wise mentor and an awesome team for me to work with. I went there to teach English and Spanish.

Not only did I teach, but I did a lot of sight-seeing and learned about the culture from museums, churches, homes, buildings, and much more. Of course, I did not miss out trying the different kinds of food they had! Oh, and one of my favourite was street food! You cannot expect the food to be clean, of course, but those were the most traditional and tasty food!

Apart from doing all the activities, I also had the opportunity to know myself even more. I got to learn more about my boundaries and how to take care of my emotional, physical, and spiritual being. One of the assignments for OnSite was to journal every day. A place where you can write down your emotions and thoughts freely, when friends and family are far from you. For my case, I had to make sure that my journal was well guarded because I was in a limited access country. If a local picked it up and read it, I would be in big trouble and might even end up in jail.

Well, this is just a glimpse of OnSite! It was definitely an awesome 7 months experience! It also opened my eyes and taught me a lot about life and people.
